Fragrances fill the world around us and are a big part of howwe perceive it. Whether in our own four walls or on ourselves, perfumes, candles and room fragrances not only make for apleasant scent, but also contribute to the fact that we combinecertain smells with specific moments and environments. Smell your way through the wide variety of scents with these six different brands.

Simply beautiful is AER’s credo, who create minimalist scentsthat are made out of 100% plant based ingredients. Accord No.05 White Pepper for example is a traditional Fougére perfume,but got a modern twist with a spicy core of white pepper andlight elemi oil in addition to immortelle oil from Corsica andearthy oak moss – a classic Fougère ingredient. Accord No.06 Ylang Ylang on the other hand, is a sweeter, softer floral fragrance of Ylang Ylang – obviously – and jasmine, damask roses and Egyptian violet leaf, plus muguet – the real star ofthis scent. The restoration of this fragrance is traditionally considered the ultimate test for a perfumer’s skills.

Founded by three friends in Paris, Diptyque originally produced printed fabrics but after only two years started to put more weight into scented candles and later on also perfumes. The candle “Feu de Bois“ is one of the newer additions to Diptyque’s wide range and is a sophisticated blend of rare woods, creating the scent of a crackling fire. Abit more mysterious is their perfume “Eau de Minthé”, whichwas inspired by Greek mythology of a water nymph whowas supposedly transformed into mint. Therefore, this scentof course holds mint at its core, enriched by geranium and patchouli.

The heritage brand Acqua di Parma was brought to life by Italian baron Carlo Magnani in 1916, who decided to create alight fragrance opposed to the more heavier ones that were popular at that time. This year, Acqua di Parma literally brought light into their perfume collection by adding ‘Luce di Colonia” to their range. The candle captures the essence of their signature scent, while adding a touch of sunny Italian landscapes through light ingredients such as orange and lemon. Keeping with this theme, the new perfume range Signatures of theSun was launched earlier this year. One of the five fragrances, Osmanthus, is especially intriguing by having sparkling notes of green mandarin, while the warm Osmanthus adds sensuality.

Amsterdam-based lifestyle brand Marie Stella-Maris that has gained lots of praise through their conscious way ofcreating goods, by using natural ingredients and donating money to clean water projects all over the world for each itemsold. This fall they take us on a hike into the woods with theearthy scent No.76 Courage des Bois, which carries amber, tonka bean and sandal at its base, enriched with rose aspects, saffron and patchouli at its heart, while bergamot adds the finaltouch. The candle is made with 100% natural wax, made fromsoy, rapeseed oil and bees wax.

Ben Gorham started European luxury brand Byredo in 2006 and uses his diverse background of being a native Swede, bornto an Indian mother and a Canadian father and growing upin Toronto, New York and Stockholm, to create emotionally laden products that yet are timeless pieces. Byredo invites you to a Slow Dance that melts feminine and masculine hints toa combined oriental scent of vanilla and patchouli at its base. The brand also created a flower bouquet in a candle by mixing galbanum, heliotrope and suede at its base with heart notes oftulip extract and violet leaves and finally topping it with lemon petit grain leaves and Rhubarb.

Dutch designer Patrick Munsters has worked in fashion forover 25 years and his own brand Salle Privée now creates modernand refined essentials that are not following the usual seasons. His interest in art, design, cities and their people sparked theoverall lifestyle approach, which resulted in perfumes all made in France. Concentrated at 20-25%, the Eau de Parfums are rich and luxurious and developed by Tanja Deurloo, a perfume designer. Celluloid Heroes is a lively and crisp scent made of musk, amber, magnolia, orange blossom, cucumber and lemon, while Kham-Sin is sweeter and warmer and made of tonka beans, chocolate, thyme, violets, patchouli, mandarin and peppermint.
