Welcome Ett Hem

The hotel is located in Stockholm‘s elegant Östermalm neighborhood in a red brick house since the beginning of the 20th century. When I arrived at Ett Hem, I was warmly welcomed by the friendly hotel staff at the reception. I was shown the entire property counting 12 individually designed rooms, lounge with a fireplace and also a 24-hour gym. 

In the evening I sat down with the friendly staff and had a glass of wine. I was curious about the history of the place, the Swedish culture and living in Stockholm. The Ett Hem story began ten years ago, when owner Jeanette Mix bought the sturdy corner property and connected with the talented architect, Anders Landström, and a London-based interior designer, Ilse Crawford. Together they have created the Swedish sense of home in every detail. 

My room was located on the second floor with wood floors crafted in a herringbone pattern, two light gray armchairs, in the corner an old fashioned tiled fireplace and a cosy queen-size bed with plenty of pillows. The room was designed down to the last detail including fresh flowers, an in-room iPad in a handmade case and oil paintings on the walls. 

Wellness and relaxation plays a big role in the Scandinavian culture. At Ett Hem you can also use the traditional Swedish sauna and a hot stone slab right on the ground floor, or take a bath in the marble-framed Victorian style bathtub and wrap yourself in one of the plush, white towels. In the morning I was greeted with a complimentary breakfast served in the greenhouse garden with fresh homemade bread, salty butter and an endless range of fruits and dishes carefully planned around seasonal, local produce. 

Ett Hem truly lives up to its name which, when translated, simply means „at home.“ While I was listening to the lounge music playing on a working gramophone, flipping through stunning books and magazines in the library, I was thinking about one thing - what ideas and inspiration will I take to my ‚hem‘ from this stunning hotel.
