When traveling to Central America, most of the times one is thinking about Costa Rica or Panama. The biggest country of Nicaragua is still often overlooked by travelers yet but about to become one of the hottest destinations south of the US at the moment. Offering unspoiled carribean beaches in the West, dazzling surf breaks on the Pacific Coast, the biggest rainforest North of the Amazonas, Volcanos for hiking and majestic colonial cities, this small country is really offering everything, from beautiful and diverse nature, immerse history and bustling nightlife. 

One of the places that should be on the list when visiting, for sure has to be quaint Granada, the oldest of the Colonia cities and the nations cultural center. Nestled between the giant lake Cocibolca and two Volcanos, Granada has managed to preserve its history with it’s beautiful colonial buildings in pastel shades. One of those buildings within the UNESCO protected old town, is home to the Tribal Hotel, a hotel, that has taken so many hearts by storm since it’s opening two years ago. 

Tribal is the latest project of hospitality icons Yvan Cussigh and Jean-Marc Houmard. While the restaurants Indochine, Tijuana Picnic and Acme have been designed to serve as an oasis in bustling NYC. The two were striving to create a place that felt like staying at a friend’s well curated bohemian home, bringing together meticulously curated objects and fabrics from around the world, mixed with pieces designed by the owner duo over many months and hand crafted by local artists. 

With it’s unique and interesting mix of world-inspired design combined with traditional colonial crafts from Nicaragua, a touch of mid-century modern sensibility and lush areas of green, Tribal is one of the most eclectic and inspiring beautiful places. True boutique style, the hotel is comprised of only seven rooms each with its private terrace and a unique identity. Another highlight is the lush communal outdoor living room, that also functions as dining area and will make you never want to leave again. So those who are lucky enough to get one of the sought after rooms better make sure to allow enough time to not only experience Granada but also to make sure to soak up as much from the relaxing atmosphere as possible and take home more than countless pictures tagged #designgoals.
