Each piece is timeless, designed with longevity in mind. Craftsmanship and modernity have been combined to produce understated garments that one can rely on for years to come.

The inspiration for Soma comes from everyday movements; from unconscious and unintentional gestures, like the roll of a sleeve, the way a collar catches the neck, or fingers tugging at a cuff.

It is a seasonless selection of styles that can be worn day-to-day, focusing on these routine movements: the very act of dressing. Soma strives to alter how clothes sit on the body.

A sleeve has been anatomically cut, following the curvature of the hand. On a pair of simple white chinos, a pocket has been moved back a single centimeter. On the cuff of one shirt, a button has been displaced to leave it permanently open, so the outfit becomes intentionally unfinished, exploring the idea of dressing and undressing.

Aspects of clothing have been subverted in small ways, to see the effect this has on how people move. Actions and gestures also informed the fabric choices within the collection.

Soma explores the ongoing relationship we have with our clothes. Their aim is for this emotional connection to continue over time, and explore how a collection comes alive through the wearer.

Wayne McGregor, a multi-award winning renowned British choreographer and director, has choreographed this event.

COS approached McGregor to create an artistic conversation between the clothes and the body, to be free, to start exploring ‘every day’ gesture and experience them anew, and to see where that may lead — and to play with the fabrics, texture and cut of the collection.

COS’ new collection subverts the wearer’s usual gestures, as they need to behave differently to wear and use the clothes. It snaps the wearer out of autopilot.

McGregor wants to explore how small and significant changes have broader implications across the more significant decisions you make in your work and your life.
