London Fashion Week:

Name aside the 4 -day fashion week showcases among the most exiting and innovative names in menswear fashion, both British and international.  With a look to the future of menswear design and designers day 1 kicked off with a show by the acclaimed London College of Fashion MA’s Fashion Design Technology Menswear course.

The nine designers Soo Jin Cho, Jooin Yang, Wentao Shi, Tak Lee, Peng Tai, Shu Yao, Zhenhao Guo, Chang Zhang and Changxi Shao were selected for the show by a panel comprised of Angela Lambert, buyer at Yohji Yamamoto; Anders Sølvsten Thomsen; menswear designer Domingo Rodriguez alongside Head of College Professor Frances Corner OBE and Dean of the School of Fashion Design Technology Jose Teunissen.

Bobby Abley followed up his Aladdin inspired SS17 collection with another pop culture icon for AW17, the Power rangers. Lux sportswear featuring several of the 90s TV show’s iconography, from dinosaurs, helmets and typography.

Texture and patterns played a huge part of Alex Mullins’ collection with oversized garments in autumnal tones given added character thanks to collage like effects composition and multi textured fabrics

Liam Hodges looked at the 1990 film, Total Recall, for his dystopian inspired looks. The military theme and camo print ran throughout the street wear looks.

Craig Green, the recent recipient of British Menswear Designer of the Year at the recent British Fashion Awards presented his deep sea exploration collection. Garments were “Suited and tethered to one another, a procession of anonymous travellers emerges”, the line features Green’s signature drawstrings and knot details, in marine tones and voluminous proportions. 

British brand Ben Sherman made its debut at men’s fashion week with a comprehensive collection of looks, both smart and casual with a real strength in their tailoring and outerwear with a nod to peaky blinders with its baker boy hats rounding of looks.

Katie Eary opened day two with a 70s inspired collection of casual and loungewear with a bold orange hues and psychedelic prints. Pyjama and robe inspired pieces featured, of course given the Katie Eary lux upgrade. 

Industry darling Daniel W. Fletcher held his first on schedule presentation with another collection referencing the 70s whilst creating a uniform of the youth of today. Looks stylish and wearable with patchwork detailing feature on several looks with silhouettes slim line and fitted. 

For AW17 Father and Son team Casely Hayford presented their menswear line alongside their first foray into womenswear. Looking at the 80s, 90s and early 00s archives the designers played with volume proportions in a mostly grey palette.

Matthew Miller also went political, sending a uniform like collection down the runway adorned with harness packs and straps and make up in blood hues. The looks themselves were stylish and classic with a restraint palette of black, greys and white.

Known for his ultra classic and wearable pieces Oliver Spencer again hit the right cord with his AW17 line. Classic tailoring pieces sat alongside menswear staples like overcoats, blazers and bombers but presented in an array of interesting colours and texture including pops of pastel pinks and velvets. 

Closing up day was the duo Agi & Sam, who presented their new collection in association with The Woolmark Company in partnership with Boiler Room with a special show in central London.

The collection looked at multiculturalism for inspiration with a palette of black and reds men's and womenswear with looks completed by Dr Marten boots for that youth culture nod.

Hair also played a big part in the presentation of the collection and created in partnership with Lynx, Kieron Webb, Global Creative Director for Lynx Hair Styling commented "This season's inspiration for Agi & Sam comes from British Youth Culture throughout the decades, and combines elements of each year to create a modern throwback." 

On the collection and collaboration the duo said...

J.W.Anderson opened day 3 in what was one of the most anticipated shows on the AW17 schedule. With artist David Hockney cited as one of the influences for the line it was bold and colorful. The flowing looks feature crochet details and accessories, for a whimsical and romantic effect.

Creative Director Daniel Kearns and business partner David Beckham presented the Kent & Curwen AW 2017. The presentation at the Oxo Tower drew much attention thanks in part for appearances by Beckham's wife and eldest son, Victoria and Brooklyn Beckham. The collection offered British vintage inspired collection of ultra wearable looks, with added signature details including oversized logos and patchwork details, baker boy caps rounded off most looks. 

With tailoring brands diminishing on the LFWMs schedule over the past few seasons Chester Barrie is the sole savile row brand left on the schedule. The elegant new collection celebrates all that is sartorial elegance but presented in modern form, with full suits and separates comprising AW17. Camel, Navy, grey and blacks feature in diverse textures and prints with tweeds and Prince of Wales checks.

Laces and corseting were a running motif throughout KTZ's new collection with their distinct tribal inspired aesthetic. Looks kicked off with a monochrome palette, which transitioned into a military olive. Sportswear dominated paired with cool military lace detailed boots. Bombers and hoodies were a highlight, oversized and featuring bold patch detailing. 

Christopher Raeburn's ethos of REMADE, REDUCED RECYCLED continued with AW17, with pieces made out of materials from bomb disposal uniforms and blankets. Taking inspiration from Ellsworth Kelly's humorous the Ghost Army looks were military with a camo theme throughout in black, greys and neon green. Rounding off looks were Raeburn's collaborations with Clarks for footwear and Eastpak for backpacks.
